Once upon a time…

This is the story of a carnival magician.  Not just any run-of-the-mill card shuffler, mind you. This was a magician like no other; his illusions were legendary.  And, once a year dust storms signaled the coming of the one-and-only Horace & Wilson Brothers Three Ring Spectacle.  Back then, small towns up and down the valley were visited like clockwork in the summer months.  Just that he was hidden away somewhere, within that arriving cloud, was nearly too much for the little kids.

The older children cheered and adults almost smiled as the worn wagons, loaded with exotic animals and even more exotic people, finally rolled through the paved center of town on their way to Old Man Johnson’s five-acre field.

It wouldn’t be long now.

Out from behind a blinding white curtain The Great Hyde would come.

It never failed to take your breath away.
